Athlete of the month - april 2024: David Putman
When did you start with Cumming Strength and Fitness? It will be eight years this summer.
Favorite Workout? I enjoy a good chipper with multiple movements for 20 to 30 minutes.
Least Favorite Workout? Any workout where I can’t do the RX movement.
Favorite Movement? Cleans
Least favorite Movement? Overhead Squats
Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.). Moved to Cumming in 1996 from Charleston, SC. Married to Tami for 44 years and have two grown children and three grandchildren, who all live in the Atlanta area. I am a consulting/coach for faith based organizations and the founder of www.plantingthegospel.com where I get to work with Coach Jeff Gravitt.
What were you doing before you joined CS&F? At 50 I made a commitment to live a healthy life after spending about 10 years letting myself go. I hired a personal training who came to my house and trained me for 6 months and got in the best shape of my life. After a few years of running and weightlifting I discovered CrossFit and have been doing CrossFit for the past ten years.
Favorite music to workout to? I’m not much of a music guy (sorry), but have a high tolerance for whatever you want to workout too.
Favorite Cheat meal? Roosters Wings!!!!
What were your goals when joining CS&F and have you achieved them? One of my values is “Fitness prolongs contribution”. My goal is to stay healthy in order that I might make a contribution well into my seventies, and so far so good.
Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here? My biggest achievement while being at CS&F is found in the community itself. I love being part of a diverse community of great people. I find lots of inspirations trying to keep up with the most often younger athletes.
What advice would you give to a newbie just joining Cumming Strength and Fitness? Keep showing up!
Something we might not know about you is? This coming year is an “all in” year for me. I will turn 65 and move into the last master level (65 plus) CrossFit category. My goal is to make the top 200 in the Crossfit Open for 2025.
