Athlete of the MOnth - August 2024: Ryan Tabor

When did you start with Cumming Strength and Fitness? Dec 2023

Favorite Workout?  I've only done the "Murph" workout once, but I really enjoyed the challenge of it, and the energy in the gym that day.

Least Favorite Workout? "Death by Burpees"

Favorite Movement? Rope Climbs (Front Squats are moving up the list too)

Least favorite Movement? Thrusters

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.). Nicole and I met at the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs), and we were married a year after graduation. We've been married for 18 years and have two daughters; Kendall is 13 and Reagan is 8 (she's the spicy one - ha). I work at Browns Bridge Church with men's and married small groups, helping people to create space to talk about Jesus and grow in their relationship with him. I'm a lake and mountains type of guy, and I especially love hiking and backpacking. I think John Muir summed it up best when he said, "Into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul."

What were you doing before you joined CS&F? I was working out on my own at a gym down the street, but often felt unmotivated. I skipped leg days all the time. Motivation and leg days are no longer the case now that I'm at CS&F...and I love it.

Favorite music to workout to? Play me some good classic rock and turn it up.

Favorite Cheat meal? Cinnamon Toast Crunch can be subbed out for any meal.

What were your goals when joining CS&F and have you achieved them? Strength and mobility were some of my goals, and I feel like I'm growing in both of those areas. A bar muscle up is on the list too, but hopefully that one comes with time.

Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here? When I joined CS&F, I was brand new to Crossfit, so it's been great to be pushed out of my comfort zone and to see the progress that I'm making. But beyond achievements, it's the people here that make all the difference for me. You know when you show up, there's people that genuinely care about you, and that is something I've never experienced in a gym setting before. Whether it's cheering each other on in a workout, talking about life, praying with one another, or laughing together...it's the community that's been so special.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining Cumming Strength and Fitness? Commit to showing up, and embrace the journey. The coaches are awesome and you'll be cheered on along the way. I wish I had joined sooner.

Something we might not know about you is? I'm a bit of an adrenaline/ adventure junkie, so I'm often dreaming up ways to tap into that.
