May Athlete of the month: Kevin Bouton

When did you start with Cumming Strength and Fitness?

I actually got introduced to CS&F when I was a member at another gym “box” back in the Crossfit Cumming days doing competitions at the gym. It didn’t take long to realize that CS&F was a special place with exceptional people and I have been a member close to 4 years.

Favorite Workout?

I honestly like the Saturday workouts that allow for the opportunity to partner up and I like trying to keep up with my workout partners.

Least Favorite Workout?

I struggle with short sprints when I redline quickly and struggle to keep pace of where I feel like I should be in a workout.

Favorite Movement?

I like any overhead barbell movements and overhead squats are the best.

Least favorite Movement?

Double Unders. After doing CrossFit for over 6 years I still struggle with Dubs. I need to just put in the practice from what I have learned from Molly at Jump N Rope from the multiple classes I have taken.

What were you doing before you joined CS&F?

I had been going to CrossFit Johns Creek for a few years where I learned a lot and made a few friends along the way.

What was the first CD you bought?

First of all I am really old so lets start with records. My first album, it was ZZ Top Fandango, ZZ Top was popular when I was growing up back in the 70’s.   I remember buying Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill cassette though not sure that was the first cassette I ever bought. As for CD, it may have been Eazy E or Eric B and Rakim. I grew up in Hampton, VA where rap music was a really big influence.

Favorite Cheat meal?

I love a Chic-Fil-A sandwich though I don’t know if it really counts as a cheat meal. I think of Chic-Fil-A as God’s food and doesn’t technically count as a cheating.

What were your goals when joining CS&F and have you achieved them?

When I first started I thought I would settle into going to a certain class time all the time and those would be my people and what has actually happened is I go to classes at all different times (except for 5am, you guys are part crazy) and I enjoy each and every class, each one has a slightly different personality and I have found that my people are not at one particular class but at every class and every single person at the gym.

Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?

I remember going to open gym one day doing overhead squats just working on getting some reps in hopes of really getting better on snatches and they felt light that day so I kept adding weight wondering how much I could actually overhead squat. I ended up with a 1 rep max at 220lbs, I was stoked and it is the only time that I have ever posted a video of me lifting on social media. Another fun day was when we had some crazy long chipper workout with 100 burpees at the end. Joe Schuch and I were trying to finish up the burpees and I kept telling Joe lets just do 10 more and after saying that multiple times we them finished together. Nothing better than struggling through a workout with our friends only to high five each other with a smile when it is over.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining Cumming Strength and Fitness?

CrossFit is as much mental as it is physical and don’t do more than you physically can and always push yourself mentally to be as uncomfortable as you possibly can during a workout. It is important to rollout after a work out, your body will thank you especially after a tough leg or glutes workout.

Something you might not know about me is?

To help with public speaking, when I was in college I took a drama class one semester and lost a bet to a friend and had to do a performance, Waiting for Godot, at the theater full of people wearing nothing but my underwear while everyone else was wearing full costumes. The teacher and audience thought it was so funny when I was supposed to only take off my boots and stripped down to my underwear and finished the show that way. I got an A.
