June Athlete of the Month: Kaylee Stewart

When did you start doing CrossFit?

July 2013

Favorite WOD?

Helen or Kelly – I like WODs with running even though I am not a runner; they just make me feel like I got a great workout. Also, wall balls and box jumps combined with running are awesome for the legs!

Least Favorite WOD? 

Isabel – I don’t love the snatch.

Favorite Lift? 

This hard to pick just one; I guess probably the front squat.

Least favorite lift?

Overhead squats and snatch

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.).

I have been married 13 years to my hubby, Brandon. We have two daughters (7 and 6 years old) and a son (5 years old).  Our kids keep us very busy and they are my full time job currently, but I do keep my CPA license active.  I LOVE coffee, the beach and being outdoors. My favorite dessert is a warm brownie topped with ice cream and hot fudge sauce. Yum! I love watching Quantico, Fixer Upper and Investigation Discovery.

What were you doing before CrossFit? 

Raising my three children who were 2, 3 and 4 at the time.  There was no time to exercise!

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout?

I never knew I could sweat that much. I also realized I never had challenged myself physically before, even though I did go to the gym and mountain biked a bit (before kids).

What were your goals when joining CrossFit? 

Build muscle and get stronger.

Have you achieved any of those goals? 


Has CrossFit affected your life outside the Gym?

Yes, my diet has greatly improved. I also love encouraging people to eat better and exercise more; I could talk about it all day!  Just yesterday I talked with the receptionist at our vet for about 30 minutes; she was so excited to learn about better ways to eat.  I am going to go back and give her some resources and small goals to start with. 🙂

Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here? 

Finally being able to do a Kipping pull-up and Kipping handstand push-up was amazing!   

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit Cumming?

Go into every WOD with confidence and challenge yourself; I wish I had done this years ago! It’s your personal workout; if you exceeded your expectations, then you were successful.

Something you might not know about me is? 

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a news reporter when I grew up. I ended up becoming a CPA.   Now I wish I had become a doctor or something in the holistic research side of medicine. It’s never too late! 🙂
