February Athlete of the Month: Erica White

When did you start with Cumming Strength and Fitness?

I began at CSF 3 ½ years ago and never looked back.

Favorite Workout?  

I don’t have a favorite workout per-say but I definitely dig the ones with all the weights and I love a long chipper!

Least Favorite Workout?  

Any WOD with a significant amount of running.  It’s really the worst, am I right? 

Favorite Movement?

I love deadlifts and cleans. 

Least favorite Movement?

The gymnastics movements. My body rebels (like it did when my Mom forced an awkward 9-year-old me to do gymnastics back in the day). Also, and I’m not going to name any names here, but my handstand holding partners have allowed me to face-plant a little too much for my comfort. 

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.).

I’m a mom to two little boys, Hamilton (7), and Davis (5) and have been married 13 years to an amazingly supportive husband, Mike. Mike doesn’t Crossfit…stop asking him….the gym is my spot. I had a bit of a mid-life crisis a few years ago and decided to return to school so I’m now in the process of completing nursing school (graduation is May –whoot whoot!). Currently, my hobbies include reading and studying for school. I am accepting suggestions on how to have a life but I won’t be able to implement those until June. 

What were you doing before you joined CS&F?  

I was working out at home with a few DVDs that were amazing, and I was getting results that I wanted but I was lonely. I like people and I like chatting and thought I’d get out of my comfort zone and try something I said I would never do.

What was the first CD you bought?  

Let’s take it back to the 80’s….the first tape I bought was probably New Kids on the Block (I heart Donnie). 

Favorite Cheat meal?

Ohhhhh….I love chicken wings and beer and wine and pizza and chocolate and now I’m hungry. 

What were your goals when joining CS&F and have you achieved them?

I never had any specific goals when joining and I didn’t fully understand what I was getting myself into. All of my achievements and PRs have been amazing and encourage me to reach higher every day. I’m still in a bit of awe of how much I’ve accomplished since the start. I’m not only stronger physically but mentally, as well, and I believe that has propelled me in my personal life. 

Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?  

Oh, man. I don’t have any one special memory that stands out but the support I’ve received since returning to school has just been amazing. I’m not sure how I would have been able to survive this transition without my team behind me.  They’ve encouraged me, allowed me to vent frustrations, and have just really been my counselors (whether they’ve liked it or not). 

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining Cumming Strength and Fitness?  

Just keep coming back. Build your team, build your network. When life gets in the way (and it does), when you don’t feel like working out, you know you have them beside you encouraging you all the way.   

Something you might not know about me is?  

I was never really into sports or fitness growing up or as an adult. I was a bit overweight up until a few years ago. I was advised against working out with my second child, wasn’t happy with myself and that became the catalyst I needed to make a change. I’m still pretty amazed at how far I’ve come and how much further I have the ability to take my fitness.
