December Athlete of the Month: Tyler Cochran

When did you start with Cumming Strength and Fitness?

I started at Cumming Strength & Fitness about 3 and a half years ago. I’ve been here on and off since then.

Favorite Workout?

My favorite workout is probably the Bear Complex.

Least Favorite Workout?

My least favorite workout is anything where I have to run.

Favorite Movement?

My favorite movement is curls…lots of curls. Just kidding – it’s cleans for sure.

Least favorite Movement?

My least favorite movement is burpees…does anyone really like them?

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.).

I was born on April Fools Day but probably should have been born on St. Patrick’s day even though April Fools is also appropriate. I am an old school hip-hop aficionado. I like puppies and kitties and kids more than adults. I have 3 about to be 4 kids and an amazing wife that still manages to put up with me. I work in the car biz and the hours are terrible so It limits my time in the gym. I need to work on that. Growing up I played every contact sport I could find which now my body is not super happy with, however, I did have a great time doing it. Now I workout to not be fat and to stay in shape for GORuck events. I swear I think they are fun after I’m done but not while I’m doing them. LOL.

What were you doing before you joined CS&F?

I have been in and out of regular gyms my whole life and started CrossFit in 2011 at a gym in Atlanta. When Meg and I moved to Canton I wasn’t really doing anything and decided I had to get back into CrossFit because it is a great workout and the community is great.

First CD you ever purchased?

The first TAPE was probably l.l. cool j Radio. Yup!

Favorite Cheat Meal?

My favorite cheat meal is a filet and the loaded sweet potato from Texas Roadhouse. The one with the marshmallows in it. It’s awesome for you. Sweet Potatoes are good carbs right.

What were your goals when joining CS&F and have you achieved them?

My goals now are different than they used to be. As I get older I am less concerned with how much I can lift and more about being healthy. I’m obviously going to have to live a long time to afford these kids so I need to stay in shape. And being a former athlete, I don’t know if I will ever be happy with where I am. But the amount of support I’ve gotten over the years has been awesome.

Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?

I almost pooped my pants on 16.4. that was interesting. But I think going in and seeing everyone at different classes is awesome. each class has its own dynamic and its always fun seeing everyone.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining Cumming Strength and Fitness?

My best piece of advice is to enjoy the process and don’t worry about not being where you want to be. It is not a race, it is a journey. and as long as you put in the work you will be happy.

Something you might not know about me is?

When I was 4, my Dad and I crashed a plane at Peachtree DeKalb airport….well….we slid down the runway without the nose gear but crash sounds more dramatic. As a kid, I remember it because they had all these neon green firetrucks lined up and down the runway and I had never seen neon green firetrucks. I didn’t realize they were there for me.
