December Athlete of the Month: Michael Watson

When did you start with Cumming Strength and Fitness?
I started with Cumming Strength and Fitness in April of 2016.

Favorite Workout?
I like workouts with a variety of movements like the 7 and 12 days of Christmas, and of course weightlifting Wednesdays.

Least Favorite Workout?
Probably Karen.

Favorite Movement?
Either back squats or deadlifts.

Least favorite Movement?
Burpees, snatch and push-ups, because I have a bad shoulder.

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.).
I am single, never been married and don’t have any kids. I work for an electronics recycling company testing and refurbishing computers. Outside of CrossFit I am a NASCAR and hockey fan.

What were you doing before you joined CS&F?
Sitting on the couch living on pizza, ice cream, and doughnuts… I had never worked out before joining CS&F.

What was the first CD you bought?
It could’ve been anything from DJ Magic Mike to NWA to Alan Jackson to Led Zeppelin, but I was buying cassettes before I was buying CDs.

Favorite Cheat meal?
Pizza and ice cream.

What were your goals when joining CS&F and have you achieved them?
To learn better nutrition and try and firm/tone up from having lost about 30 pounds. I don’t always follow the nutrition like I should, so I am not at my stopping point.

Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?
I’m doing weight movements that I had never heard of before, and I have been here longer than some people expected me to be.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining Cumming Strength and Fitness?
A few things I would share with somebody that’s new. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else, do what you can do.  Don’t worry nobody else is judging or making fun of your scaling/modifications, because they are too busy focusing on what they are doing. If, you don’t want to do a scaled/modified version of the workout by
yourself, find me in a 5:30pm class and I’ll do it with you.

Something you might not know about me is?
The year(s) I make commitment club (for the whole year) instead of taking a gift from CS&F, I have them make a donation to Meals by Grace. Something else
about me is… I have depression and anxiety. It makes me not always want to be around other people, so I don’t always feel like being at the gym. But I come in anyway. I may not have one of my best workouts, but afterwards, I am always glad I came in.
