When did you start with Cumming Strength and Fitness?
A friend recommended I give Cumming Strength and Fitness a shot in May of 2014.
My favorite workout is probably Grace (30 clean & jerk)
Least Favorite Workout?
I was going to say Fran or Karen, but then I remembered 16.5 and I had bad flashbacks. (21-18-15-12-9-6-3 thrusters and burpees).
My favorite movement would have to be deadlift or power cleans.
Least favorite Movement?
Anything with elevation change… thrusters, wall balls or burpees.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’ve been married to my husband, Adam, for over 14 years. We have 2 children. Dylan is almost (yikes!!!) 13, and Cadence is 10. We’ve lived in Georgia for about 12 years, and are originally from the Tidewater area of Virginia. I’m not currently working, but I did spend a few years as a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I am pretty shy and not very outgoing. I love animals. All of them. I love reading, spending time on the lake, karaoke and line dancing.
What were you doing before you joined CS&F?
Before I joined CS&F, I was taking group fitness classes (BodyPump, Hot Yoga) at a local gym. They were LOTS of fun, but over the course of the 3 years I was a member, the yoga instructor was the only person who spoke to me.
What was the first CD you bought?
It would have to have been Shania Twain “The Woman in Me” or Brooks and Dunn’s Greatest Hits Collection.
Favorite Cheat meal?
I have a HUGE sweet tooth, so anything chocolatey. Ribs and pulled pork are pretty high on my list, too.
What were your goals when joining CS&F and have you achieved them?
To be honest, my goals were to mix up my workouts, meet new people, and to do a pull-up on my own. Mixing up your workout routine is the very definition of CrossFit, and this is honestly the best community for meeting new people. The pull-ups came pretty quickly, as well.
Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?
Some of my favorite memories are the summer/Christmas parties each year. I’m also pretty proud of myself for conquering Murph!
What advice would you give to a newbie just joining Cumming Strength and Fitness?
Sometimes CrossFit gets a bad reputation for being extreme and for causing injury. CS&F isn’t that king of place. Even when the workout seems scary, it can always be modified to suit your fitness level. The coaches are awesome and help you determine what’s right for you, and then watch to make sure you are moving properly. Sometimes, conquering that scary workout is just what you need that day. The members here become your best friends, and they’re always here to give you the motivation you need!
Something you might not know about me is?
I’ve had some pretty cool experiences through my past jobs, including getting Lasik for free. I spent a good long while addicted to World of Warcraft (thanks to my husband), and I used to breed sugar gliders.
