When did you start with Cumming Strength and Fitness? I started with CS&F September, 2019.
Favorite Workout? I have a lot of workouts that I still need to do, but so far I’ve really been enjoying any partner workout. I also like workouts that incorporate gymnastic movements and running.
Least Favorite Workout? I have to say my very first workout. I went from doing nothing to doing Jordan’s benchmark entry level workout. The workout was Tabata squats then a 1000m row. I enjoy those movements but my recovery was not good. I could barely move for the next few days. I had to reschedule my 2nd PT session to allow more time to recover. My wife wasn’t sure if I would go back after not being able to walk down stairs, sit and generally move. So while this was one of my least favorite workouts it was important since it showed me that I have a lot of work to do. I made it back to the gym and have been enjoying it ever since. Other than my very first workout, I don’t particularly enjoy single movement workouts. Example would be 30 clean and jerks or snatches as the entire workout.. I like variety.
Favorite Movement? My favorite movements are snatches, jerks and laying on the ground after a workout.
Least favorite Movement? Thrusters and wall balls.
Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.). My wife Mandy and I have 4 kids, Layla (8), Bates (6), Etta (4) and Griff (2). We are pretty busy keeping up with the kids, but when I do have time I enjoy fly fishing, hiking and being on the water. I have been heavily influenced by some amazing mentors throughout my life. Because of that influence, I also give my time mentoring college aged men through my church. I co founded and help run a biotech company focusing on regenerative technologies for the veterinary market.
What were you doing before you joined CS&F? I was active growing up playing soccer, skiing, climbing, hiking and other outdoor activities, but I never went to a gym to workout. The first time I did any lifting was at CS&F.
What was the first CD you bought? I’m not sure of the first CD I bought. I did burn a lot of cds with napster. I do distinctly remember my Beastie Boys tape though.
Favorite Cheat meal? Chocolate Ice Cream
What were your goals when joining CS&F and have you achieved them?I joined CS&F so I can be active and keep up with my kids when they are older. I want to be able to travel, climb mountains, run, bike and do anything physically they do without issues. My short term goal is to just show up and be consistent. So far I have been able to workout consistently, which I know will lead to achieving my larger, long term goals.
Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here? One of my biggest achievements is doing the entry level workout again with Jordan and immediately recovering. It was night-and-day compared to what I had experienced. Being able to recover quickly and not feel terrible after the exact same workout, showed me that the process is working. The consistency and encouragement from the members at CS&F is inspiring. Coaches and members do an excellent job meeting people where they are. Everyone understands that we are all in process. Progress is more important than perfection.
What advice would you give to a newbie just joining Cumming Strength and Fitness? Show up. If you show up consistently the results will follow.
Something we might not know about you is? In college I was on the rodeo circuit – riding bulls…. until I broke my jaw.
