Athlete of the Month for February: Shannon French

When did you start with Cumming Strength and Fitness?

I started fundamentals in November of 2019.

Favorite Workout?

My favorite are Saturday partner workouts!  I get a chance to work out with a great group of friends that I don’t get to always see during the week because we go to different class times.

Least Favorite Workout?

Any one that includes a lot of Burpees!

Favorite Movement?

Strict Press or Push Press

Least favorite Movement?

I think the Snatch is my least favorite just because it is the one I am the least comfortable with.

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.).

I have two children.  Caleb is a Freshman at Denmark.  We stay busy with his football and Lacrosse seasons.  Morgan is a 6th grader at DaSana Middle School who spends her time working on tumbling as she wants to start Cheer next year.  I am originally from a small town in Indiana about a hour north of Indianapolis.  I went to Purdue (Go Boilers!!) and then got my MBA from Georgia Tech. We have been in the Atlanta area for the last five years.  Before that we lived in Knoxville, New York, New Jersey and Florida.  Currently I work at Kimberly-Clark (Huggies, Kleenex, etc.) and am the Sr Human Resources Director supporting our Corporate Functions organizations (Legal, Growth, Strategy, R&D, etc).

What were you doing before you joined CS&F?

Before joining CS&F, I did Pilates.  I loved it so much that I went through the certification process to become an instructor.  I still go a few days a week.

Favorite music to workout to?

Really anything is good with me!

Favorite Cheat meal?

Pizza

What were your goals when joining CS&F and have you achieved them?

When I first joined CS&F my main goals were to improve my overall health and increase my strength in an environment where the coaches were knowledgeable.  What I didn’t realize was that I was going to get paired with a Coach (Alex!!) who genuinely cares about helping me obtain my goals and meet a group of people that push me to always be my best!  I still have a lot of goals to meet, but know I am in the right place to achieve them.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining Cumming Strength and Fitness?

Don’t give up!  It can be a bit intimidating, but when you have questions/concerns, talk to your coach.  There is nothing they can’t help you overcome.  Don’t feel like you have to do RX.  You can work up to it.  For just about every move there is a modification and the coaches will help you figure out the best one for you.  They are all great and super helpful!

Something we might not know about you is?

I love cooking!  I am part Italian and can make really good meatballs!
